My mom just sent me a box of all my old artwork as a kid. At the start of this website/process (please see the About This Site tab), it seemed like a good idea to see what my tendencies were as a kid artist. So from the start we can see that I was making books/booklets. This even before my mom opened her bookshop (around 1982). There’s something dynamic and dramatic about hiding art behind a cover, it creates anticipation. Sometimes a painting strikes me as an accident scene: there it is, all the energy and motion splattered everywhere, no preparation for your mind or eye.
