After the post-partum depression of completing (though not really meeting the goals of) my series “Origin & Future of the Blood” and “Clearinghouse Publishers,” I became involved mostly in music, playing in bands in Portland and continuing a new phase of Boron. As far as visual art went, the status of an art object as an end in itself or as a summation of ideas and practices had ceased to interest me. You can see this played out in the previous posts re: “Clearinghouse Publishers.” This was probably due in large part to socializing with my wife’s fellow Art in Social Practice MFA students at PSU, and attending weekly visiting artist lectures, whose speakers leaned towards the social practice end of the scale and/or who spoke mostly about process and the mechanics of their work. While listening to these lectures, I continued filling notebooks with band names (above) for the “Your Name Here” project (see below).
